Halo USA

Originally British, Halo is a well-respected organization performing landmine clearance operations. This is a critical task before refugees are able to return home safely. Twentysix thousand people are killed each year by landmines, 8000of whom are children. In Cambodia alone there are 35,000 amputees injured by landmines. Many others do not survive. It is a member of the International Committee to Ban Landmines which won the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize. Halo’s largest program is in Afghanistan, but it also operates in nine other countries with 4000 mine clearers. Halo is a barebones operation whose mission is "getting the mines off the ground, now." $5,800 will support an established mine clearing team of 25 persons for one month.
