Vintage
Dishes Floorcloth
3' x 5' Acrylic Glaze on Canvas
This
floorcloth was created to sit in front of the kitchen sink in
a very elegant traditional home. The client had a great love
of a certain shade of red that decked the walls of several rooms
as well as the slipcovers in others. The adjoining dining room,
visible from the kitchen, has a hand-printed
wallpaper with vintage dishes and a striping reminscent
of vintage tablecloths and fabrics. I used this as my inspiration
piece. The dishes on the floorcloth were painted using crackle
glaze to mimic the crazing of the porcelain, and the center
was "combed" to pick up the stiping in the wallpaper.
The palette was drawn from the colors in the backsplash tiles--
as well as the client's favorite red.
