This table runner is made exactly like a floorcloth except that it uses a lighter canvas— for increased suppleness— and receives fewer coats of protective varnish (since it won't be walked on.)

My client requested a design suggesting a forest or meadow floor. She wanted it to contain greens, rusty reds and cream. I designed this "forest floor" as summer transitioning to autumn. I created the center area by sponging several layers of glaze in different colors over real leaves— a reverse stencil. Then I moved the leaves, and sponged again, overlapping the first grouping as they do in nature.
