About Dory
I did not imagine myself as a Shamanic Healer until my first visit to an astrologer, Arifa Boehler. She challenged me to step into my true gifts and calling as a spiritual healer and urged me to study shamanism. Within 15 minutes of a Basic Workshop in Shamanism with David Corbin and Nan Moss, I knew I had arrived where I belong.

I am a living example of what one might call the “Wounded Healer”. My childhood was characterized by much terror and shame and I found solace in the woods of Maine where I communicated with the natural world, my friend and confidant. My connection with the Spirit I found in all living things saved my life as a child and led me to accept the grace that was offered through adult mentors, therapists and later in Twelve Step Programs in my early adult years.
I grew up Catholic, was a Unitarian in my 30’s, and was an active member of a non-sectarian, intentional spiritual community called “Peace Church” in my 40’s. We did everything from Sufi dancing to Buddhist meditation, African drumming, and numerous environmentally focused spiritual practices.
The introductory workshop in Shamanism led me to numerous, successive, courses in advanced shamanism, including completion of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies’ Three Year Program in Advanced Shamanism and Shamanic Healing. Additionally, I have studied for the last 5 years with Sandra Ingerman, author of Soul Retrieval, Medicine for the Earth, and other well-known books on shamanism. I have completed Sandra’s intensive workshop in Soul Retrieval and am currently in the second half of a Two-Year Teacher Training workshop with Sandra. Completion of this workshop enables me to teach advanced shamanic healing methods to others.
Additionally, I have studied with Tom Cowan, a well-known author and expert in Celtic Shamanism, and Ailo Gaup, a Sami Shaman from Northern Norway, and I have completed extensive training with Claude Poncelet in Shapeshifting and Hank Wesselman in Kahuna Shamanism.
Prior to my introduction to Shamanism, I studied with Rosalyn Bruyere, an internationally renowned energy healer. And I have completed a Reiki II certification with Veronica Lamb in New York.
I am passionate about all my Shamanic Healing work, but nothing sets me on fire more than my work with children. Our children are hungry for connection with living things and the natural world. I feel gifted and especially “called” to share with them my ability to communicate deeply and hear their desire to celebrate, grieve, let go, give up, dance, sing, and give hope to humanity. I work with children individually as well as teach in small circles.
My first college major was Education, but I have not been a teacher until I moved into my Shamanic Practice. Now I teach workshops for those who are seeking basic knowledge about the shamanic journey process as well as more eclectic, advanced, workshops for professionals who are interested in blending their skills with a spiritual healing component. These workshops are directed to persons such as nurses, other medical personnel, therapists, social workers, environmentalists, social activists, hospice volunteers and others who are curious and wanting more exposure to the spiritual component of healing ourselves, others and the planet.
I invite you to write to me if I can answer any questions you might have that are not answered on this website. I will respond to you promptly.
Blessings,
Dory Cote
